We are a non-profit organization dedicated to helping childhood cancer patients and their families by providing practical, emotional, and financial services. We accomplish our mission by providing Family Sponsorships, Care Packages, Support Services, and other Awareness Campaigns for the community.
We currently serve Eastern North Carolina counties serviced by ECU Health Maynard Children's Hospital.
•1 in 4 families lose more than 40% of their annual household income to treatment related work disruptions
•1 in 3 families face work disruptions such as quitting or changing jobs.
•1 in 5 children who receive a new diagnosis of childhood cancer are already living in poverty.
Our practical support service provides families facing financial hardship with valuable resources, such as groceries and gas cards.
Additionally, we provide parents with a stress relief activity or therapy session as they navigate this journey. We also send greeting cards to bereaved parents.
For families that have experienced a Childhood Cancer Journey, we are offering a traveling Talking Circles Support Group around Eastern North Carolina.
Overnight hospital stays are common and some times unexpected for families. Our hospitality kits provide family members with the necessary supplies for those unexpected stays.
Once a child transitions, we know parents will need time and space to grieve this loss. We provide grief care package to help with the grieving process.
For Gabby's 12th birthday, her last birthday, we celebrated with a Disney Princess Tea Party. At the end of the party, Gabby said it was the "Best. Day. Ever." We have created this service to support a Best Day Ever for a child in palliative or hospice care with their very own Best Day Ever. We launched this service in 2022 with our first child who had the opportuntity to have a party with their care team.
One year during Gabby's journey, a supporter brought us grocery for Thanksiving. It was a kind and helpful gesture that eliminated our need to go shopping and we could spend time caring for Gabby. We continue that tradition by providing families with either a gift card to a grocery store or restaurant for this service. November 2022, was our first year and we were able to provide five families with home cooked meals.
This was one of Gabby's favorite holidays as she enjoyed getting presents! Her first year of diagnosis she had to spend Christmas in the hospital; however, she received several gifts from individuals and organizations that made the stay more bearable. So, our first service was to provide Holiday wishlists to families who were not in the hospital or to families who recently lost a child to cancer.
No parent expects to outlive their child. When that occurs due to childhood cancer, we assist families with a donation to help cover costs associated with the memorialization of their child.
To shed a greater light on the impact and effects of childhood cancer, we provide monthly awareness campaigns that share crucial information and stats with the community with the hopes of bringing awareness to those who might not otherwise be exposed to the impact of cancer on families within their community.
This year, we will host our first Better When I’m Dancing Community Dance Party Fundraiser on August 24, 2024, from 12p - 4p at The Journey Event Center in Greenville, NC, in honor of Gabby’s favorite pastime, dancing! Tickets are $20. Let’s keep her spirit alive and spread joy through the power of dance by coming together to support childhood cancer patients and their families.
